Supporting Yourself Through November

Everything You Need To Make November Great In A Holistic Way

We have had our tricks and all our treats. The leaves have fallen and we are officially heading into the holiday season.

For many the sqeee of excitement, like me! However sadly the huff and humbug of overwhelm and drudgery come from many. I want to help you to turn the huff and humbug into the magic that surrounds the holiday season. If you are someone excited for the holidays ahead I want to help you support yourself in not getting worn out or spreading yourself too thin. For me Halloween is the big marker of the holidays. With the decorations, parties, and multiple religions celebrating heritage and their lineages, it truly evokes that holiday vibe. Plus you get to dress up! For many it is Thanksgiving that truly blows the horn of the holidays are upon us.

If you have connected with me on social media or have visited any of my live events or workshops you know I am passionate about healing, learning, and growing. Many people will sit down to a dinner this month surrounded by anxiety, expectations, judgement, and disconnection. Filled with past hurts, past let downs, and outer reactions of separation. Just showing up to check off a box that you finished another “thing to do”. I want to challenge you. I want you to practice your way up to Thanksgiving with strengthening your Gratitude muscle and show up in true love and gratitude.

This holiday is surrounded by so much. I don’t believe that wiping any holiday from the books will heal the pain that is associated with it. However I do believe and practice listening, compassion, and unity. As many of you know I grew up in a very openly religious family. I was encouraged to learn as much about my friends religions and any religion or way of life that peeked my interest. I thank my parents for that everyday, and strive to raise my children to do the same. In doing so my family has always looked at Thanksgiving as a day to celebrate family, to celebrate the earth, to have gratitude for the food we eat and the time we share with each other. You choose whats right for you.

This month we will look into the tools and practices you can implement to help you really show up in the world with true gratitude for the world around you and the life you live. I know everyday isn’t perfect. I know some of you feel like you’ve been handed a raw deal. However I want to help you to shift that no matter how much or how little you have or where you have come from. I know what it’s like to go without. I know how hard this time of year can be whether your missing a loved one or stressed for the financial burden that it can become. But I want you to love your life daily. I want you to have peace weekly if you can’t make it happen daily. Not just because you deserve it, because lets be real YOU DO, but because it is also good for your health, your kids, your significant other, your work and the world. Specially this time of year. Let’s get to it!

So how can you support yourself through November?

Let me share some holistic tools that I use and share with my clients to bring that much needed relaxation, mental, and emotional support with you into the holiday season.

I will share with you my go to oils, crystals, teas, and tools for this month.

For November

Lets Start with Essential Oils:

I am a huge fan of Aroma Therapy. I use Essential Oil Emotion Release Technique, and essential oils in my home and private practice. I love that more and more people are opening up to the uses of essential oils and the great support they can give you. I do recommend safe practices of oils and if you’re not familiar how to use please reach out as I’m a total safety first kind of person (Comes from my decades in Emergency Medicine).

Let me share the four oils I lean to for November here. Focused at the energy of the month and I will share how they can support you. You can use them individually, together, or mix and match. You can use them day to day, or week to week. If your familiar with my guest spot on Midday With Jocelyn Radio show each Wednesday at 1:10 PM EST you know I pick out an oil of the week. You can do that with these too assigning each oil a week by how they fall on your emotional need for the calendar.

The oils for November:

Jasmine: Would you ever think that a climbing evergreen shrub would produce one of the most beautiful and expensive oils available? We don’t typically think flower when we think evergreen. Jasmine is a profound scent so remember that a little goes a long way. You can gain the same beautiful scent and healing from a blend also, which can be multi functional and more cost efficient. Jasmine is known to cultivate positive experiences within intimate relationships. This encourages the purification unhealthy intentions and motivations. This can be around sexual, relationship, and life experiences. Creating safety with in and balance in expression.

Geranium: This is a wonderfully versatile oil. It is known for it’s ability to be hormone-balancing. It restores confidence and innate goodness of others and the world. It aids in healing a broken heart and release of suppressed grief and pain. Nurturing forgiveness, trust, and emotional healing.

Star Anise: A seasonal favorite for many this time of year it is great in chia, apple cider, and in diffusers. A spicy scent that is warming this oil is great for sore muscles and digestion. It is also said to increase luck. It is well known for its powerful protection properties. It has been used to ward off nightmares for a restful nights sleep. Be aware this is not the same as pimpinella anisum we are talking about illicutn verum. They have similar uses, Star Anise is safest to use.

Tuberose: A deep floral scent with a hint of mint this oil is known for its ability to calm the nerves. Aiding in deep meditation and hypnosis it a tranquil oil. It has been used in studies focused at relieving stress, anxiety, and depression.

These scents each hold their own wonderful qualities. They all together remind use to be in touch with nature and the Earth while calming the nervous system. Soothing us from feelings of being overwhelmed, overrun, and/or overworked.

If you would like to work more with oils and emotions please reach out or join my community The Gathering With Rebecca Packard as I am sharing more and more about the great tool that oils are.

Note: as I have said before I am not “in” an Essential Oil business. However I do share family and friends links to help them with their businesses also because I use oils and want to share high quality products from trusted sources. If you are a regular here you have been well informed on my views and how I am creating community and supporting community. If you choose to support that thank you if not no worries read here for other high quality options.

Next Tool Is Earthing:

It is no wonder we are all re-calibrating, realigning, and re-balancing at this time of year. We are in the waning phase of the year and experiencing mercury retrograde. Which will bring up many life lessons that are part of our healing journey. Moving into harvest season. The energy of this time is associated with the Earth and grounding is extremely beneficial. One way to ground is to do a meditation. As it is getting colder (If you live in the northern hemisphere like I do) Earthing out side can become more difficult. Meditation is a great alternative. However being bare foot and in contact with the Earth is the most beneficial and invigorating way to do Earthing. So I will share with you how I practice during the shift of seasons.

How to practice Earthing in cold weather:

You may not be able to go out side and get your feet in the grass. But you can still take your shoes off and put your barefoot soles to the Earth. Simply find a tray that is big enough for your two feet to be on at the same time. Fill this tray with rocks. You can use river rocks, ocean rocks, rocks from your yard or rocks you have collected in your travels. If your like me you probably have a vast collection of rocks in and around your home. This can be a great morning or evening practice to start or end your day. Place your tray on the floor in front of your favorite chair place your feet on the rocks in the tray. Feel your feet on the Earth. While you sit just breath. This can be a great time for you to do a breathing exercise, give thanks, say a prayer, recite your affirmations, think about the wonderful day a head or remember all the great moments you had in your day. Whatever feels good to you. Or just bask in the silence and connection. By being bare foot and in contact with your Earthing basket you are creating a connection with the planet and the energy that it has.

Earthing benefits you by releasing the built up energy (think static electricity, or balancing too much positive/negative energy) you have collected through out your day and releases it from you. Which then has the benefits of improved sleep, help manage pain, and normalizes cortisol (a stress hormone) to reduce the stress response.

Take it up a notch and add some Yoga to your practice by doing Butterfly pose. You can do this before or after you use your Earthing basket or by placing some the rocks on and around you while you sit in this pose. This will have added benefits as Baddha Konasana (butterfly pose) improves flexibility and releases stagnant energy and emotions in your groin and hip region. While calming your nervous system.

Crystals:

Many people are falling in love with crystals these days. Which isn’t surprising as more and more people open up to holistic/ natural/ alternative healing and well-being. Whatever you are called to call it be open to seeing that there are many modalities, many ways of practicing, and what works for you may not work for everyone else. That is okay that is why there are so many options. Also recognize that this doesn’t make the others wrong or less than. It just means you and your frequency need something else and that’s okay. I say this because the crystals I share may or may not align with what you have been taught. I have chosen these crystals because they have been given to me to share because of their frequency, the emotional support they can work with, and how they show up in the energy of the month.

Much like with the essential oils you can work with these crystals individually or all together. Lean into what feels right for you. During each month I like to take the crystals for that month and keep them on a plate on my desk. At the beginning of the month I like to get the crystals together cleanse them, clear them, and concentrate them for the month ahead.

The crystals for November:

Obsidian: The stone of protection it is also well known for it’s ability to aid in grounding. You can work with obsidian making it your own personal body guard and personal assistant as it restores stability, clears away confusion, and anchors you in the now. It clears away chaotic energy, confusion, and shields you against negativity and hostility.

Ruby: Long used by royalty the ruby is known as the stone for love, passion, protection, and prosperity. It’s supporting energy aids in increasing confidence and ability to negotiate. It amplifies the bio-magnetic field around the body. Beware this stone is serious in getting you to become your best self by bringing up anger and negative emotions for healing and release.

Onyx: The stone of protection and strength black onyx shields from negative energy and calms fears. It is important to cleanse this stone regularly as it is known to absorb the unpleasant energy you might encounter. Giving you stamina and stability by preventing your energy from being drained. It is a great stone to use when harnessing your inner power during times of struggle and depression.

Black Opal: This is a powerful manifestation stone. Known for being lucky and creating luck for the one that wields it. It allows you to see past, present, and future to be able to change patterns and make educated decisions. Use this crystal to create harmony and strengthen character.

Tea:

Tea can be an extremely soothing and relaxing drink. You can make your tea as simple as you would like or as ritual as you like. I drink tea in a bag from my favorite mug while my kids run around yelling and squealing, I also drink tea steeped loose leaf in a beautiful pot poured into fine bone China and sipped on my porch in silence and take time to inhale the aroma of the flower essences that are in the tea I’m enjoying. Try not to over complicate it, make it as enjoyable and easy to do as possible because then you will actually do it.

During this month I lean to Lapsang Souchong tea. This rich smoky tea can be shifted with adding chocolate, mango, raspberry, or lavender. It can help you sooth your nerves to connect with and fuel your psychic energy.

You can read on the box how to prepare the tea. I like to add a teaspoon of wild honey from my favorite local farm. I typically enjoy this after dinner to wind down while we get the boys ready for bed and the day comes to an end.

I love sharing the things that make my life easier. The tools that help me create calm in the chaos of life and take my self-care up a notch. I know how hard this can be and it has taken me years to get to this point so don’t beat yourself up if you have difficulty remembering EVERYTHING. You don’t have to. If your just starting out pick one thing to implement and add to your calendar with an alarm to remind you. If you have been building and want to do them all you can do the same thing or even better print out your FREE PDF that will give you a mini go to guide on what to use, why, and when. GET IT HERE
